Public housing was established to provide decent, safe and clean rental housing, typically for extremely
low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Heber Springs Housing Authority (HSHA)
Public Housing has 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom apartments. We have an Elderly section for 62 and up, and
two family locations. Our 1 bedroom apartments are 605 square foot (sqft), 2 bedrooms are 805.5 sqft,
3 bedrooms 1008.5 sqft and 4 bedroom apartments are 1229.5 sqft.  Today in the United States, there
are approximately 1.2 million households living in public housing units.

Prospective tenants can apply for these apartments on line at or at our main office at 400 E.
Spring St. Heber Springs, AR. 72543. We accept applications Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. We are closed from 12:00 to 1:00 for lunch. We are closed to the public on
Wednesday. Generally we have a waiting list for all sizes of apartments. Applications once submitted in
their entirety are then placed on the waiting list for an apartment based on the number of people in their
family and rooms needed. Applicants can expect to be on the waiting list for three (3) to eighteen (18)

Once an apartment becomes vacant, the Housing Authority will interview the next person on the waiting
list to determine eligibility for our program. Eligibility is based on a number of items, including income,
criminal background, prior rental history, and debts owed to other public housing agencies. If an applicant
meets all the eligibility criteria, they are offered the next available apartment.

The Heber Springs Housing Authority has three public housing properties that are home to 70 families.
We are proud of our community and our residents.
